Traditional branches of industry which have developed here have not, in fact, been replaced by new ones, but have been strengthened, expanded and specialised. Carl Zeiss Jena, SCHOTT Jenaer Glas, Jenoptik and Jenapharm are integrated into strong regional networks, thus also creating space for the innovative ideas of smaller companies or start-ups from all over Germany which are settling in Jena’s industrial estates and technology centres.
