Art in Jena
Jena’s art scene is both lively and full of tradition. At the start of the 20th century in particular, a group of enthusiasts – including professors at the local university and especially the archaeologist Botho Graf – succeeded in presenting the latest art movements to a Jena public at exhibitions by the Jena Art Association.

Today, the city is trying to take this tradition up again. In its many galleries, works of art of all genres are shown and the art exhibitions at the Jena city museum have turned into a real insider tip.
The Botho Graef art prize has been awarded by the City of Jena every three years since 1992; it is an attempt to support and present contemporary national and international artists.
