Volksbad Jena (Foto: Martin Heinrich) Since 1 January 2005, the city of Jena’s important institutions have been united under a single strategic management, including the Volkshaus, Musik- und Kunstschule, Jena Philharmonic Orchestra, Ernst Abbe library, Volksbad, Volkshochschule, the markets, city museums and the LISA district centre, not to mention Jena tourist information and a large number of special projects – especially the KulturArena, high-class art exhibitions, reading marathons and awards for art and culture. The facility has already gone through a baptism of fire: it had overall control of the Schiller Year (2005) and the German-French Year (2006) and successfully applied to the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft (Association of Donors to German Science) for the title “Science City 2008”.
