The former house of the zoologist Ernst Haeckel was built 1882/83. "Villa Medusa" because of Haeckel´s Medusa drawings which can be seen all over the house. Haeckel sold the villa to the Carl Zeiss foundation in 1918 specifying that it should be used as a museum for his scientific and artistic estate. Thus today you can find out about the life and work of the important zoologist and Darwinist in 7 rooms. Two rooms have been preserved in their original condition.
